Tips for Working from Home Efficiently

If you have realized your dream of being able to work from home, then you would have realized by now that it is not as easy as it seems. Whether you write for a living or have an Internet business or sell some specialty that you have expertise in, what you need is some space for yourself where you can pursue your home career. Those who are used to home office life can appreciate the ups and downs of the lifestyle. Efficiency is key to successfully work from home. Learn the keys to making this career mode a success.

Have an office room that is completely separate from any other home activities. It needs to be a space solely devoted to your work--no kids' toys, no household bills. Good working conditions include good lighting. Aim to work in a place that has natural light. Dark interiors with minimal lighting can result in a throbbing headache after a few hours. If natural lighting cannot be achieved, ensure that the area you are working in is well lit and bright.

Manage both your work and your time well. One benefit to working from home is flexibility. However, that flexibility can easily get out of hand. Set daily business hours for yourself--chunks of time where you will focus on your work, and only your work. This schedule can be whenever you'd like it, from early morning to late at night.

Getting into a proper routine can be difficult, especially when working from home. You’ve got no boss to impress but yourself, you don’t have to be anywhere at a specific time, you don’t have anyone telling you what to do. This is generally the first mistake that people make, it’s easy to get up at 1pm then work through to 10pm that night or even 3am the next morning. However your body won’t thank you for it in the long run. Get up & go to bed at the same time as if you were going to work, if you stick to this you’ll find that you get more done & you won’t have to work as late.

Working from home can make us lazy, there’s no real need to leave the house anymore…right? Well, Since you’re waking up at the same time you normally would for your day job; you now have more time to be productive instead of sitting on the train or in peak time traffic for an hour. Use this time in the morning to hit the gym or go for a walk, maybe go out & get some breakfast & unwind.

Plan your work in advance. Begin each day with a clear to-do list of your priorities for the day. It'll get you off to a quick start rather than wasting time determining what to do next. Try to treat working from home like a normal job, work starts at 9am & finishes at 5.30pm (if you need to work later later you can). This way you’ll try to get everything you need to get done by the time work is over. If the day is “unlimited” then we tend to waste time reading blogs & forums.

Learn the work/life balance that is imperative when working from home. Take advantage of the flexible schedule, making sufficient time for both work and play. Once you get into the groove, you'll love the benefits of working from your home office.

Don’t overdo it, working from home is fun. It’s even more fun when you’re making more money than your old job, don’t let it get in the way of your personal relaxing time & time with your family.
